What Is a Knee Scooter?

  • A knee scooter is an alternative to crutches. It is used by people who cannot put weight on a foot or ankle due to surgery, injury or illness. Our knee scooters have a comfortable foam pad for the knee leaving your other leg free to propel you forward or backward.

  • Who Should Use a Knee Scooter?

    People with hamstring injuries.
  • People with foot or ankle injuries and/or surgeries.
  • People who must be non-weight bearing on one ankle or foot.
  • Those with fractures, dislocations, sprained ankles, heel spurs, or arthritis.
  • Those with diabetic ulcers, infections, Charcot joint disease, ruptured tendons, or surgical procedures
    on foot or ankle neuromuscular problems.

  • When Should a Knee Scooter Be Used and For How Long?

  • Surgeons typically recommend 6 to 12 weeks of non-weight bearing activity on a foot and/or ankle after surgery. A Leg Up suggests having your knee scooter delivered prior to your procedure. Consult with your physician regarding the length of time required for you. For long-term use, consider the purchase of a knee scooter.

  • Which Knee Scooter Should I Use?

  • All of our knee scooters are of the highest quality. Typically your height and weight will be an important consideration in choosing the right knee scooter for you. A Leg Up will assist with your choice and will ensure your knee scooter is properly fitted.

  • Where Do I Find Knee Scooters?

  • A Leg Up, LLC in Alameda, CA rents, sells and delivers knee scooters throughout the Greater San Francisco Bay area. Our delivery area includes the North Bay into Sonoma County, the East Bay into Contra Costa county and the South Bay into Santa Clara county. Outside the delivery area, we can easily make shipping arrangements for your knee scooter.

  • Should I Buy or Rent?

  • If you are planning to use a knee scooter for 3 months or less, we recommend renting. If you plan on using a knee scooter for more than 3 months you should seriously consider purchasing one.

  • What If I Would Like to Purchase My Rented Knee Scooter?

    If you decide within 2 weeks of the initial rental of your knee scooter that you would like to purchase it, we will apply your rental toward the purchase of your knee scooter.

    Is There a Minimum Rental Period?

  • There is a minimum rental term of 4 weeks.

  • Will My Knee Scooter Be In Good Condition?

  • We clean, disinfect and recondition your knee scooter before sending it to you for rental. We check the brakes, steering alignment, wheel bearings, tire wear, pad wear & general condition. Your scooter will both appear of the highest quality and function properly.

  • What If I Need To Change the Length of My Knee Scooter Rental?

  • The minimum rental period is 4 weeks. If you need to change the rental period after the initial four weeks, please contact us to arrange an extension of your rental or a rental pick-up.

  • What If My Knee Scooter Needs to Be Repaired While I Am Renting It?

  • Please contact us promptly regarding the repair that is needed. We are fully equipped to repair all knee scooters either on-site where you are or, if the repair is more extensive, we will provide a replacement knee scooter of the same or a comparable model. We will pick up and/or redeliver in our delivery area. (See "Where Do I Find Knee Scooters?", above).

  • Will A Leg Up Bill My Insurance Company for
    the Rental of My Knee Scooter?

  • We are unable to bill your insurance company for the rental of your scooter.

  • Will A Leg Up Submit a Reimbursement Claim to My Insurance Company for the Rental of My Knee Scooter?

  • We are unable to submit a reimbursement claim to your insurance company. However we will provide you with documentation to support your claim.

  • Will I Have to Pay Sales Tax?

  • If you have prescription from your physician for the knee scooter you will not have to pay sales tax.
